Back in the 50s, several farmers bought the 40 acres where the Wilton Ag Farm sits today. These farmers gave the money to purchase the property as a loan and the chapter paid them back. On the 40 acres where the Ag farm is, back in the day there was corn crib and a house that sat on the land. We interviewed John Brown about the history of the Wilton Ag Farm. Mr. Brown and his brothers were very involved in FFA and helped farm the ag farm. The Brown family has been here since 1851, about two or three years before Wilton became a town.Students of Wilton FFA farmed it. In the 70s when they were getting into school they bought a tractor and they had an old disc at the ag farm and the disc was throwing ridges and students used their resources to fix the disc. John Brown hopes agriculture has an impact on students in the future. Even though Agriculture has changed and advanced he hopes that students still learn from it. He thinks that there are different types of crops that could be tested on the Ag farm. His ideas are to have little plots for students to start a garden and to have different types of crops in the field. He would also like to introduce students into truck crops which means selling crops or produce. This year he is starting plants in the Wilton FFA Greenhouse to get members involved. Overall John Brown wants students to still learn from agriculture even though it has advanced.
